Birth of Rev. William Clarke, the 'Stump Parson'

    1798

Born on 2 June 1798, the English clergyman and geologist William Branwhite Clarke came to be honoured as the Father of Australian Geology — yet he prized the 'street of gold' of eternal life above every nugget the diggings could yield.

Governor Gipps and the Myall Creek Massacre

    1838

On 10 June 1838, twenty-eight innocent Aboriginal men, women and children were murdered at Myall Creek. Governor Sir George Gipps refused to let the crime stand, demanding a retrial that upheld the law of God — that all men are of one blood.

  3. 19

The Death of Botanist Joseph Banks

    1820

On 19 June 1820 the great botanist Sir Joseph Banks died in London. Having sailed with Cook into uncharted seas and gathered tens of thousands of specimens, he declared that every study of the works of the Almighty only increased a man's admiration of his Creator.
